East Harting, The Village 1906

More about this scene
Moving south-west, the tour reaches East Harting, a hamlet east of South Harting, the main village with the parish church. East Harting feels remote, and consists of two lanes forming a rugby ball in plan. Here the photographer looks south along the east lane, with the stone and brick and thatch Cherry Tree Cottage on the left. A pair of late 19th-century farm labourers' cottages with slate roofs is on the right, and in the distance is the steep escarpment of the South Downs at Harting Down.
