Childhood Visit
A Memory of Eaton Socon.
I have a lasting memory when I was a child probably about 1952 when my parents visited my great uncle Herbert Breed. I think the house that I visited has now gone but I remember it well and I would love to hear from anybody who knew of it. It was situated at a fork off of the Great North Road A1 towards St Neots. The house was immediately at this fork and the house was end of terrace nearest the fork. The small back garden backed onto the A1 while the front garden was quite long and triangular towards the other road. Opposite the terraced houses was an allotment. They used rain water collected in butts for washing and had a hand pump in the back garden for drinking water (no mains). I was very young but it is funny that it left a lasting impression.
