William Clarke (DOB about 1874)
Eliza Ann Street,Patricroft
Wife, Mary Hanna (nee Edwards DOB about 1871) six children.
Employed, Naysmyth and Wilson, Bridgewater Foundry, Patricoft as labourer/Crane Driver..
11.10.1915 volunteered for Army Service, Drill Hall, Cromwell Road, Patricroft.
5056 Lancashire Fusiliers
4197 5th Manchester regiment.
Embarked Empress of Britain to Egypt via Gibraltar arr 17.09.1916. Various postings in Egypt.
Departed Egypt with the Manchesters for Western Front, France arr ??.03.1917. Saw action Arras,Ypres,Passchendaele and various engagements during retreat and advance 1918.
Demobilised April 1919, no injuries.
Awarded two medals, British War Medal and Victory medal.
Returned to family Eliza Ann Street, Patricroft
Resumed employment at Nasmyth and Wilsons.
