Living In Englefield Green

A Memory of Egham.

I was born in Englefield Green in July 1954 we lived at 60 Alexander Road and I went to St Jude's Infant school and then on to the Junior School which was next door, it was only a minutes walk from our home. We used to live next door to Ted and Betty Gallon and there daughter Charmine who I played with often, on the swings and slide that her dad had made also the lovely rocking horse that he made one christmas, we were told not to go into the shed and it wasn't safe, now we know why, I also played with Kenny Hales who lived a couple of doors away and John Williams who lived across the road. Mr & Mrs Humphries lived across the road and I did sometimes play with there Grand- daughter Geraldine. My grandad Albert Riddle worked at Clark's the butchers at the top of Alexander Road and st Judes Road, till he retired I remember Nye's the green grocers, they always made me a lovely Harvest Festival box. I remember the horse at the top of Alexander Road I think his name was Silver, as far as I can remember. I have many happy memories of Englefield Green, we left the Green in 1962, have been back many times.
I have found a photo of Charmine and I having tea at the table and chairs in their back garden that her dad had made.
