Living In Ellesmere Port
A Memory of Ellesmere Port.
I lived in Ellesmere Port from 1954 to 1966, in Wolverhampton Rd. I went to Milton Rd primary then the Wirral Grammar school as the Port had no grammar school then. Every day there were 6 full special Crosville buses taking us to school. Memories of the Hippodrome cinema and another cinema on the main road. We must have had better summers in those days as Rivacre Valley pool would be packed. We walked there from the bus stop at the Cemetery Gates. Also remember the old cattle arch which was often flooded.
Rag and bone man with his cart and you got a goldfish in a jam jar if you donated anything, but the fish was always dead next day! The old library was at the bottom end of the Port before they built the new one. I used to spend Saturday mornings there, leaving my bike outside, it was always there when I came out. Brownies and Guides in the Methodist Hall and Friday nights at the youth club in St Thomas church hall.
The Duchess of Kent came to Ellesmere Port, I saw her; it was because Ellesmere Port had been made a Borough!
Happy days for sure- life was simpler then.

The Rag and Bone man used to come regularly to Old Hall Drive.
