I have wonderful memories of Sunday afternoon visits to the Mere in the 50s with my parents. They ran a pub in Shrewsbury and Sunday afternoons were family time. We came in spring when the daffodils were out along the side of the lake. My great great grandparents had a shoeshop and lived at no 10 Scotland Street, Ellesmere, Shropshire. Census records show Thomas and Elizabeth Williams had 6 children there, a lodger, Thomas Griffiths, a draper and a servant, Annie Jones. Can anyone help me to find something out please? My grandfather was the son of Lydia Drury and her mother was a female from Otley Park by the name of Mainwaring, nobody is sure of her first name as we do know that Ms Mainwaring was thrown out of Otley for conceiving a child out of wedlock to a local builder by the name of Drury. I would like to shed some more light on this as my grandfather is no longer here ...see more
My mum was evacuated to here during the Second World War, she remembers a place called Eastwick. I am driving her up for a visit this Friday 30/04/10 to see the village and see what she remembers of the place.
