More about this scene
But most of all, Edwards remembered Clay Hill - West Hill as it is now - where he enjoyed the hospitality of Colonel Dennis O'Kelly, and was taken to view his stables. 'Here I was entertained with the sight of that famous horse, Eclipse'. And that was worth a journey, for Eclipse was one of the greatest racehorses that ever lived. Already 21 years old when he came to Epsom, he had by then earned £25,000 at stud. The Duc d'Orleans and the Prince Regent were among the guests entertained at Clay Hill on the profits of that career. Racing was their passion, and A PRINT OF ECLIPSE ZZZ05329 (Bourne Hall Museum) After the painting by George Stubbs, showing Eclipse at the Rubbing House on the Downs.
