More about this scene

The Village 1923 Once back to the A39, continue east, and about a mile west of Minehead, turn left to descend into Bratton, a tucked- away village with an excellent 15th- century manor house, Bratton Court, complete with a chapel and gatehouse. In this view we look past Step Cottage with its external stack (now no longer with a thatched roof) towards the ford in the valley bottom. Frith photographers obviously liked those cottages with chimney-breasts on the street front.

A Selection of Memories from Exmoor

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Exmoor

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I remember the fire that destroyed this lovely hotel. Prior to that I was working at the Hunters Inn Hotel and Blackmoor Gate was my local. They had 4 great Danes which towered above the bar. Two were lost in the fire, also a young lady who was the sister of a school friend from Combe Martin. Her surname was Norman.
