More about this scene

A damaging fire in 1974 has altered the appearance of the Imperial Hotel since this photograph was taken. The hotel was built in 1868 to capitalise on the huge number of tourists coming to Exmouth during the resort's Victorian heyday. In the grounds were built two imitation Greek temples, one of which - the Temple of Theseus - still survives.
