More about this scene
Originally the property of the Anglo Saxon kings of Mercia in the 8th century, Eynsham later became the setting for a Benedictine abbey which stood near the present church. Little remains of it today. The market town is reached over a toll bridge built by Lord Abingdon in 1769.
