More about this scene
Children and pub customers pose for the camera outside the pub in this photograph of Farnborough taken a year before the outbreak of the First World War. Some of these residents would have attended the nearby Rushmoor Arena, where military tattoos were staged. The annual displays were first held in 1894, and were sometimes attended by as many as half a million people.
