I think we moved to Farnham Common in about 1967, my parents took over the family shops "Martin's Broadway Stores" we lived above the shops to start with, in a flat that was heated with green house paraffin heaters. was it 1968 that it snowed heavily ? I spent my youth in Farnham Common and have nothing but happy memories. We lived in an old house called Glenwood in Templewood Lane. In those days (The 1950's and 1960's) there were very few houses. As you turned the corner where The Grange Hotel was or perhaps still is, you could count the houses on two hands. I looked the other day on Google and saw that our house has not changed ...see more
I started at the school in 1970, I still think it was the best school ever, we had a swimming pool which I thought was so cool, it was never heated though! But I got my width, length and 7 lengths certificate in assembly. First day at school in a red cardigan and red beret. My how times have changed. My Family moved to the house to the left of the school gates in 1957, before the school was built. I lived there until 1965 when I married and moved to the USA. My brother went to this school, and I used to cut across the field to catch the bus to my school in Slough. I have many fond memories of growing up in Farnham Common, taking the dog for walks in Burnham Beeches, stopping at the bakery on the corner of Beeches ...see more
