Legend relates that it was close to here that the Saxon warlord Cerdic landed to begin the Saxon invasion of southern England, only to be thwarted by the British war-leader Arthur. The real-life Cerdic was probably the ancestor of the Saxon kings of Wessex.

My dad was in the RAF at Calshot and I attended Fawley school, and later Hardley secondary, in 1950-53.
I have recently found a photo of myself and two other boys, standing in a pond holding jam jars of (presumably) tadpoles or the like. Hi, Thanks for your comments. On my birth certificate my address is 37 Gunsite Farm. We left when I was two in 1964. However, I'm fascinated by its history. My mum was a single parent and had a caravan next door to another sing parent! Next time I'm in Hythe I will visit Lime Kiln Lane. Hopefully I'll find the old site.

My maiden name was Perl. I have so many happy memories of growing up in this area in the 50's. Moved to a bungalow in Hythe in 1954 one of the first to be built on the old golf course.
