Growing Up ,In Fetcham

A Memory of Fetcham.

My name is David McIntosh

I was born in Warrene Road, Fetcham in 1937

I lived there and later in Lodge Road until 1959, before I emigrated to Adelaide Australia

Like all others the Splash was often our playground. I played football at the Rec for the Sports and Social Club

I am writing some memoirs for the family to keep. I am now 81 years old

I have few memories of Fetcham Primary School, which I attended and the fellow students

Does any one remember me? Maybe they could fill in a few gaps.. I guess I went to the Primary School probably around 1941-42, then onto Leatherheard County Secondary School. I worked for the Trustee Savings Bank, mostly in Epsom. I did my National Service in the Scots Guards from 1955-1957

I would love to hear from any one of my era

Best wishes from 'down under

David McIntosh

My family were living at 18 Sunmead Close in 1942. I remember the watercress beds behind the house and in the back garden (or was it next door?) was a swing in a hollow tree. On one side lived a Free Church minister, Rev Jones who had a little daughter. I went to Leatherhead Preparatory School in Church Road which was run by Miss Bertha Danks. In 1944 I was at The Lindens School, Park Rise, run by Miss H F Marsden. A distant memory of a large department store with overhead wires on which cash and receipts moved around the shop. Because of the danger from enemy action (clearly recall sheltering under the stairs after a flying bomb alert) my mother and my sister and myself moved to my grandmother's home in Basingstoke. Regards to all. Brian Butler
