My Early Years

A Memory of Filey.

My name is Gerald Jennings I lived in Primrose valley& Fileyfrom 1946to 1954. My grandfather owned the Linkfield Hotel in Primrose Valley,This was run by my father (Kenneth) and one of his sisters(Ruth) It was during this period my parents split up.I have many amazing memories of this time .my first job was working the beach ponies Primrose Valley wages 2shillings 2 summers later. Horace Smart owner of the caf'e.and fish &chip shop gave me a job ,peeling potatoes ,and making chips.(2 dustbins a day 8 shillings a week) I then graduated to another summer job for Horace and his son Peter in their milk bar.my final job before leaving school was working for John Corrigan as his assistant on a "bingo Stall" in the valley He used to by me bow ties .Other memories , children BrianJowsie and his family, Roy Gibbson Ann Gibbson,
their dad owned the shop before the Smarts, Barbara Spinks(father was estate manager). Dr Twigg he had 2 girls their names escapes me. David Hamilton family had the Highcliff hotel .there were 2 other girls that came to the Valley later their dad had a taxi co, in Hull As a holiday area, I met many celebes .from Butlins who ate at Smart caf'e were my mother worked during the summerholidays. left Filey in 1954 ran away to s ea and did not return to yorkshire I am now 82 and living in mid wales(llanilar)l Ihope this tale will stir some memories .
