More about this scene
This lane leads down to the Flatford Mill complex, now owned by the National Trust. The fencing rails almost seem to grow out of the truks of the ancient oak trees, one of which at least has been pollarded. The elderly labourer is sitting on a wooden wheelbarrow, restng on his spade, with his buskins tied up with cord.
