More about this scene

The construction of Flint Castle began within days of the signing of the treaty of Rhuddlan; it was the first of the Edwardian fortresses built to impose a new order upon Wales. Work began in the summer of 1277 on both the castle and a new borough; the English had come to colonize as well as conquer. The borough was given a ditch and palisade, the castle was built in stone from the start.
