Swan Cottage Forest Row

A Memory of Forest Row.

As a child in the 1950s I lived in the Swan cottage ( the white 2 storey building on the left hand side of the road opposite the town hall) about middle of the photo. My father Mr E. W. Crocker owned the tobacconist and confectionery shop at street level. We emigrated to Australia in 1959. Unfortunately it has been demolished for a petrol station and a shop. I think then (1950s) it was about 350 years old, it is amazing that a building that old could be demolished but I am speaking as an Australian now. I have enjoyed visiting the village when I have been in England.
It would be fun to communicate with anybody in the village that remembers our family.

I think Swan cottage was demolished in 1967/68 along with the building next to it after it was hit by a lorry coming down the hill when it's breaks failed. I used to get sweets in that shop when I was a kid. I never knew your family though, I moved to Forest Row with my family from Scotland after you left for Australia. I now live in Saskatchewan Canada.

Just thought you would like to know what happened to your old house.
