More about this scene

Here we see one of Formby's older properties, a fine example of the type of cottage that was once common to this part of the coast. An old custom at Formby was the carrying of a corpse three times round the Godstone in the belief that it prevented the dead from coming back to haunt their relatives. The Godstone itself is thought to date back to pagan times, being carved with a cross by early Christian missionaries.

1975 At Holmwood School, Great Days Indeed Mr Tuckeroo
I was the first stooge to work at Holmwood (for one year in 1975). I was 18 and come over from Australia for a gap year between secondary school and law school. Ice Rink
Formby Ice-Rink. Mrs White, Tim and Mrs Appelton who I'd have my lessons with. Friends; Caraline Vickers, Mary Mordsley and little Franky Kelly to name but a few. Great times, sad when the rink closed. Norma Clarke, a great ice skater and of course the lads, Eddie,Les and Rodney who worked there.

Our Lady Of Compassion School
I was at Our Lady's from 1960 - '66. The most abiding memories are the smells - of disinfectant in the outside toilets, which were frozen in winter, and horrible lukewarm milk in those small bottles which were always kept in crates next to the massive heating pipes. Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
