Does anybody remember Tam Ritchie and his band of merry men ? They were the council workers based at Dunivard Place always good for a laugh ! Tam lived in an old caravan which I think Marco Galli has rotting away in his yard at Glencairn Terrace .He drove the old steamroller when the were doing maintenance on the roads.If I remember when they disbanded the Garelochhead crew he moved to the wee road at the bottom ...see more
Hi there- I am a researcher and my client is trying to piece together her late father's childhood. Born in 1925, John Askew was raised by his great grandmother, Agnes Askew (nee Grant). They lived in Glasgow but spent a lot of time at Garelochhead. There are vague memories of John helping out a man on the pier with ropes possibly, and helping out at the harbour....but only vague memories. I would be so interested if anyone knows anything! I know this is a long shot. Thank you!
the first memory I have is my mum taking me and my brother sam to tell my aunt helen Strachan that my father Samuel had died in battle in Burma he was her brother may 1944 i was 4years old after that we visited my helen and uncle jim on our summer holidays we lived townhead Glasgow we went every summer for a number of years there was a german prisoner of war camp there i joined the navy at 16 and was posted ...see more
I might be wrong with the year but, this is about the time the old primary school (Shore Road), moved into the new school at Bendarroch Park.
My last class room at the old school was in the Gibson Hall (where from memory our gym classes were also held).
