More about this scene
The town's reputation for its fine market harks back to the 14th century, when the first rights were granted to the abbot of Cockersands. The stone pillar topped with an orb marks the site of the original cross and stands on a medieval base. The present column was erected in 1754 and was renovated in 1897 to mark Victoria's diamond jubilee.
