Post Office Garden Village
A Memory of Gilfach Goch.
The photograph is of Garden Village Post Office which was then in Cambrian Ave. The couple standing together are my parents, Stan & Mary Watts, I believe the man standing on pavement is a neighbour Bob Davies. My mother was the Post Mistress here from 1942, having begun work in about 1921 in the old office at top of High St. The Garden Village office was moved to its present location, top of Thomas St about 1966 & my mother remained post-mistress until retirement about 1972. Altogether she worked about 50 years for Post Office. I am their eldest son David & now live in Chiang Mai , Thailand. I left Gilfach in 1960 but my brother Peter lives in Sully & often visits. I have 1 surviving cousin living in Garden Village who I visit on my annual trips to Wales.
