Gisburn, The Church Of St Mary The Virgin 1921

More about this scene
The church of St Mary is glorious with snowdrops in winter. An unusual headstone is that of Jenny Preston, showing a witch with her cauldron. Gisburn appears in Domesday Book. The church tower looks Norman, but the main doorway is 13th-century. Oliver Cromwell stabled horses and troops in the church after the Battle of Preston in 1648.
