Fire At Garscube Road

A Memory of Glasgow.

My great great grandfather and a few others died in a fire at Garscube Road in 1959. Does anyone remember this? His name was Robert or 'Rabbie' Tweedie. His children were George, Annie, Robert, David, Catherine, Alec and Jeanie.

Year before I was born but my dad talked about it. He knew the Tweedie's and I remember him talking about Alec (and maybe Rab as well). That'd be mid-late 60's. I think Tweedies and McMillans in Garscube Road were related in some way (my grandfather was George McMillan) and Robert Tweedies grandmother was Mary Barrass McMillan. We lived in red sandstone tenement, 830 Garscube Road and your great great grandfather was in same block (but black stone not red) about 6 or 7 closes down, further away from Queens X.
