More about this scene
The Botanic Gardens occupy 43 acres off Great Western Road, and many orchids, tropical plants and trees are grown in its conservatories. The Kibble Palace, the largest glasshouse in Britain, is now a Winter Garden, but was formerly used for public meetings and concerts. Disraeli (Earl Beaconsfield) and Gladstone delivered their Rectorial addresses to the Glasgow University students under its immense dome.
