East along the High Street with its many good buildings, including ones with ornate 17th-century brickwork or Georgian facades, Bridge Street bears left to descend towards the bridge of 1783 over the River Wey. Architecturally it also descends from the heights of the High Street, except for the timber-framed building on the left half way down. Beyond is the Borough Hall of 1906, uninspiringly neo-Georgian.

A Visitation At The White Heart
My Grandmother told us all in the family that when she was young, in about 1920, she had passed through Godalming and had stayed there overnight at the White Heart Inn opposite the 'Pepperpot', where that night in her room she had clearly seen a vision at the foot of her bed of a woman in very old fashioned clothing (Georgian?) who then smiled at her and turned away and went through the closed door. Farncombe And Godalming Memories.
My grandad had a grocers shop in Farncombe high street, Renmants. My mum, brother and I lived with the grandparents and great grandma during the 2nd world war. I can remember a German plane being shot down in Broadwater playing fields and we all went to have a look. Also,a bomb dropped on a house near Godalming Grammar School, so we went to see the huge crater as my grandad was in the ARP. I went to ...see more

Traffic Control Godalming
The R.A.C scout directing traffic around the pepperpot is my Great Grandfather Arthur Bradshaw who lived in kings rd Farncombe.

2 Hall Place Cottages
I lived here in 1959 with my Parents and my older brother my sister Ann was born in this house. I do not remember living here as I was only 2 years old. I am tracing my family tree and I cannot find this cottage on Google maps. I think the name may have changed, is there anyone out there that can help me out to find this.

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
