More about this scene
Continuing north-east along Portsmouth Road we reach Godalming, a market town since 1300, its centre now by-passed. These timber-framed buildings are fine examples. We see them from beside the 1814 stuccoed Market Hall, at the junction of the High Street (now improved by traffic calming) and Church Street. Numbers 99-103, with their three jettied storeys which tower over the gabled timber- framed house on the right, are now a children's wear shop.
