Childhood Memories
A Memory of Godmersham.
I was born in Godmersham in 1952 and lived here until 1972 when I got married .We lived in Eggerton lane at the far end . My Father worked for Godmersham Park estate and was head Gardener when he died in 1984 My mother worked at Eggerton Manor .
I grew up with the following kids in the village Gillian Kemsley ,David Palmer , Timothy Kelly, Barry Davis , Mark Hyland , Sue Linkin , Richard Tuff , Bryan and Gill Phipps and many more .
I went to Wye primary School and then the Boys Grammar in Ashford .
I think that the strongest memory of my childhood is being able to go out to play all day and not be expected home until teatime , not having to worry about "strange" people just having a really good time .
I had various jobs to supplement pocket money and at different times worked for Mrs Wood raising calves for Veal , at the mushroom farm at Bilting and at the Post office until 1972 delivering milk and papers .
How lucky I was to have a childhood like that and in such a lovely part of the countryside .
