On Sunday last I was informed by a dear friend, that the Black Horse / Lavender Goose is no more. Sold apparently for development project. How sad that a building with such history is now nothing more than rubble. Another important building gone to be replaced by what? I'd be so interested to learn what happens next..... Sue Hibbert
I spent the first sixteen years of my life at The Black Horse Hotel due to licensees being Henrietta Smith and Charles Vernon Smith. My paternal grand mother and father. My mother Kathleen Smith shared responsibility for the catering and residential side of the business. One of the little girls in this picture, as a late middle age woman, worked for my Father at the Black Horse Hotel. My father had purchased a print of the above and when hanging it in the saloon bar Rose Hawkins recognised herself playing with friends in the river as a child. The local paper was advised with a journalist visiting and reporting taking photos of my ...see more
I stayed here for the weekend with members of Walton Baptist Church. Remember walks and playing football in the grounds, when for simplcity the team just called "Addlestone" rather than my real name, Mark. But then, if that last memory is correct, then it would actually have been later - more like 1973 or even 1974.
