I was stationed at fort Brockhurst For 2 yrs in the R.A . I can remember the ferry to Portsmouth Also a cafe we used as a meeting place when not on duty. made a lot of friends in Gosport some I'm still in touch with after 60 yrs so yes happy memory's . Nick name (Whip Wilson.)
From the age of about 10, so about 1957, every year for about 5 years I held a season ticket which cost 5 shillings at the Gosport Swimming Bath for the whole summer, and spent hours there every week. I could even be somewhere in this picture! If I was feeling flush I could buy a choc-ice for 5 old pence, and I always had a penny for a squirt of Brylcreem from the dispenser.
Other than as a name on a map, I hadn't a clue about Gosport before joining the Royal Navy in 1949 and becoming a Portsmouth rating. My Visual Signals training had taken place, firstly, at Cookham Camp near Chatham and, latterly, at the Main Signal School at East Meon, Hampshire.
