Holidays At Knotty's Greatstone

A Memory of Greatstone-on-Sea.

Travelling down to Greatstone in Grandad's Commer Van, Grandad driving, Nanny & Mum sitting up front, Dad, elder brothers Tony & Teddy (Edward ),sister Kathy, younger brother Brian & myself jammed in the back with the luggage . Arriving, opening the sliding side door and pouring out of the van into Knotty's ramshackle bungalow (?) with a verandah that ran along full length of the front, surrounded by a large unkempt garden and a stream at bottom of said garden. The R.H.& Dymchurch railway across the stream. Unload luggage, arrange sleeping places, (only 1 bedroom) curtained off areas for Mum/Dad, my sister & us boys all in the 3rd space together. Then off to the beach/dune, fish & chips for tea, getting up before it was light so we could go with Grandad to Dungeness to get fish straight from the fishermen for breakfast. Knotty is long gone but not forgotten. Brought my son here when he was little & now my granddaughter loves it.
