Hillview, Greengairs

A Memory of Greengairs.

My grandparents lived in Hillview - Hamill - they had a big family. My gran was always baking and my grandad was a cobbler and repaired shoes. I remember the lovely smells of the baking and the leather. We used to get the bus from Caldercruix to Airdire then another from Airdrie to Greengairs when we went to visit. It was good fun to visit and there was always plenty to amuse us and loads of scones and pancakes to eat. My aunt Ella and uncle Phil (Brady) lived on the Main Street - uncle Phil had a Coal Merchant Business.

My mum must be related to you. Eleanor Donaldson, my gran was Helen Hamill married to Peter Donaldson from Hillview. I can remember my great gran living across the road from them on Hillview.
Thank you for your message. My grandparents were Hugh and Annie Hamill - gran's maiden name Gorman. My mum was Margaret (Peggy) Hamill and she married John Brophy (my dad) in 1947 in Longriggend. We must be related somehow - there were so many Hamill brothers and sisters. I'm doing a family tree and getting so confused with all the names. I was born 1950 so I assume I am in your gran's generation. I hope to pass on family tree to my son and his familty.
