More about this scene
High up on the hills, this was lead mining country. Now tourists come to see the four-mile-long array of caves discovered by miners in 1858. Some of the stalagmites here are believed to be 170,000 years old. Animal bones from 90,000 years ago have also been discovered. A computer system now analyses the rate of stalagmite growth. The Policeman's Truncheon is still a growing attraction.
