In July 1740 a number of the inhabitants of Yarm were brought to the Guisborough Sessions, accused of riotous assembly. Will Artis was ordered to be taken hence to Whitby and 'thence on board some of his Majesty's shippes of warr'. Will's punishment was to be added to the press gang quota.
