Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

Motorists heading out of Cornwall from Callington must descend a steep hill through the old mining village of Gunnislake, which is situated in the Tamar valley close to the Devon border. The scene is little changed today except for increased traffic, controlled by traffic lights; the Commercial Hotel on the left is now the Cornish Inn. The advertised Tivvy Beers were brewed at Tiverton in Devon until 1965.

Along Row From Home

I n 1965 my parents retired to Saltash and my father built himself a small boat. As it was moored off the end of the garden. He looked around for a dingy to get to and fro and eventually found one in Gunnislake. Guess who got the task of rowing it down to Saltash. What a journey for a towney that had hardly been in a boat before. Fortunately the dingy was small and light [fibre glass] and the weather good ...see more

World War 2 Evacuee
My mum Sylvia Pitts was evacuated from Bristol as a child to Gunnislake during the war. She stayed with a farming family with her school friend. All I remember from her is that she was on a farm and the eldest son was called Tom. Mum was a proper Townie and it was a big culture shock to be living in the countryside. Sadly she has now passed away so I can no longer get any more information about her stay. Sue.

Sunnyville, Lower Dimson
My grandparents, Mr Albert Taylor and Mrs Florence Taylor retired to Gunnislake in 1947. He died in 1967 and she in 1980. Nana was a dressmaker and Granddad was a retired Station Master. They used to have dogs, which we loved and we walked many miles, picking blackberries in the hedgerows. Some of my happiest childhood memories are of Gunnislake. A dog called Trixie used to arrive after lunch each day ...see more

Grandfather

I have this photo on a postcard from your company mailed 1915. Grandfather was William Cruse/Cruise, born there in 1879. He was a miner who moved to Michigan, USA when the mines ran out. Someone named H.B. mailed this to my grandfather's wife, H.B's sister in Trimountain Michigan. Would like a way to find more info on him.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
