More about this scene

Hailsham was a small market town before the railway arrived, after which there was considerable expansion. Much of its wealth and subsequent Victorian building was a result of prosperity based on rope, sacking and string making. The 20th century has added modern shopping centres and a leisure complex. This view of Hailsham captures The String Town in its Victorian prosperity.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Fond memories of my time spent with my friends at Oakland's riding school in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Does anyone have any photos of it at that time? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Nikki x
