More about this scene
Sir Alliott Verdon-Roe, one of Britain's first aviators, is buried in this partly Norman church. St Andrew's was originally the church of the Benedictine priory of Hamble-le-Rice, which was founded in 1109. The long narrow nave has a fine Norman doorway, and there is a Norman arch in the south wall which led to the priory.
