More about this scene
The Village c1955 Pevsner likened Hamble to a West Country fishing village, and he was right to make the comparison. With its steep, winding streets and pretty cottages, there is a definite hint of Devon or Cornwall about it. Take a stroll through the village and you will be surprised at just how many pubs there are. The Victory Inn can be seen down the street, and round the corner, not visible in this picture, is The Bugle, Hamble's famous riverside inn, which probably dates from the 12th century.
