Wardleys Memories

A Memory of Hambleton.

Spent many many happy school holidays at Wardleys caravan park in the early to mid 1950s , around 1953-1956, I used to go with my mum for the whole 6 weeks holiday period, we stayed in my uncles chalet that he had built on the caravan site , which was then just a field & the other caravans were round the perimeter of the field leaving the centre of the field open. My uncles chalet was at the bottom left corner of the field next to an opening in the hedge that went onto a footpath down to the jetty, the footpath led from Wardleys lane between Wardleys pub & the caravan site & was flanked by a tall hedge on each side.
The pub proprietor at the time was called Wood ,I can’t recall the first name but they had two children a boy & girl , David & I’m not sure if the girl was called June, but I spent all my time with them playing round the pub & the garden & lawn behind,as well as the riverside & surrounding area’s. I believe David went on to become
a hairdresser in poulton - le - Fylde.
The last time I visited was in the nineties, it had changed considerably, the site then I think was Owned by a Jack Salt , I may have that wrong.
Anyway. My name is Alan Kay , I’m 77 now ,at that time I would have been around 11 or 12.
Mr & Mrs Alan Kay
York.
