Lafone Secondary School For Girls
A Memory of Hanworth.
It was in 1951 that I attended Lafone secondary school for girls. It was a brand new building and such a change from the other schools I had gone to. I loved it there. It was bright and airy ;had a science lab; cookery sections and outside plenty of sports areas.
Above all it was exciting to meet new girls and teachers.
I remember my English/Art teacher Mrs Mason, she taught me to love writing and reading.
There was Miss Porter, Mrs Shimwell, Miss Barker (sports), Miss Meleuish (Maths) and I think the Headmistress was Miss Bateman.? I had to stand outside her door a couple of times !!.
On occasion, at cookery lessons we were allowed to invite a teacher to lunch with the meal we had created and that was always a laugh.
Cakes bread biscuits were carefully carried home only to be accosted by boys from Debrome begging to try some. My poor Mum didn't get to taste my efforts.
I was sad to hear that the school had been demolished due to asbestos. Is Debrome still standing?.
Is there anyone out there that can remember those years?.
My name is Jackie Hariis nee Everitt
