1953 To 1973 Harold Hill Was Home

A Memory of Harold Hill.

I was 2½ when my parents Sam and Gwen Barrow moved from Greenwich with myself and my sister (6months) into No1 Tiverton Grove. It was on the coner with Bedale Road and had been my Nan's house. I used to ride my trike around the green opposite where there were large trees. When I was 5 I went to the infants school in Tamworth Road, now its houses so cannot fine any pictures. Names I remember from the surrounding houses are the Dycorts (No3), the Stevens, the Clarks and the Holdings nearby in Bedale Road. Next School was the Priory Juniors in Settle Road. At 11 I moved across the road to Harrowfields Boys. Teachers I remember are Glynn Jones (Maths), and Mr Barrat (English). Boys names that I can recall are Brian Wade, Alan Peat. Not good but it was 50years ago. I stayed on and was in 5EC1 before I left to start work. I finally left Harold Hill in 1973 but my parents lived there until early in 2000's. Recently went to Settle Road and was shocked that both the Boys and Girls schools are gone.
