Born In The Village
A Memory of Hartley Wintney.
I was born in the village in a nursing home, that was in January 1949, just up from the old police station on the opposite side of the A30. Then I grew up in 13 Mildmay Terrace with my mother, father, grandmother and grandfather, their name was Alfred and Hilda Denton. When I was about 4 we moved to 7 Weir Road and Dad kept chickens at the top of the garden. I have a lot of happy memories from that time. My brothers and sisters were born at 7 Weir Road.

As I had a gr.gr.Uncle who once was in Hartley Wintney I have endeavoured to find out any information . He married a Lydia M Walkinshaw 1918 a few months after there marriage they had a daughter Margarite Yvonne LaGogue,Her father was Yves a LaGogue any information we discovered on Ancestry suggested he made his way to the US Boston where he applied for citizenship and mentioned his wife Marion (middle name for Lydia) we discovered that Lydia had informed family out there that he had died in the war in 1918 which was not the case he died in Boston July 15 1925. We are not sure as to the events that led to this but want to write this story correctly. We have had no luck upon reaching out to the Walkinshaw family. Barbara Walkinshaw was a parlour maid at the hooks hospital it could be that Yves met Lydia through her sister as he may have been in that hospital but no luck there.Wondering if you heard or knew of this Walkinshaw family. I realize that they are of a prestigious background.
Thanking you in advance
Denise
