More about this scene

The magnificent tithe barn that stands close by the church of St Mary the Virgin dates from the 15th century, and is reckoned to be the second oldest in the country. Grade II listed, the stone- built barn measures 162ft long by 36ft wide, and is still in use to this day. At the time this photograph was taken the building was roofed with slates, but these were replaced by red tiles during restorations in 1981.
