More about this scene

Hathersage in 1902 was just a train ride away from Sheffield, offering a mixture of fresh air, romance and legend. The fresh air took care of itself; the romance was provided by Charlotte Bronte, a glimpse of whom was enough to make the local rector Henry Nussey lovesick. The stuff of legend comes from Robin Hood: Hathersage is said to be the birthplace and burial place of Robin's friend Little John.

Stables At Shendish Manor
My grandfather, Albert Clements, was a coachman at Shendish Stables at the time of the 1911 Census and so may have been a work colleague of William Scott (as posted by Barbara Gill on this site)

Birthplace.
My Uncle Charles and my father James Scott  were born at Nether Hall in the early 1900's. The family was in service to Sir Henry Longman. The main family residence was Shendish House in Apsley,Hertfordshire where my grandfather,William Scott was coachman and head of the stables.  All the horses owned by the Longmans were given a name beginning with L.  My own grandaughter has a wooden rocking horse, named Larkspur, after my father's favourite mare.

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
