More about this scene
The parish church of St Michael is one of the most interesting in the Lake District. It was originally built as a chapel in the 12th century; the present commanding building on its hill overlooking the village mainly dates from the 15th century. It contains Tudor murals and painted texts on its walls, and its parish registers go back to the same period.
