More about this scene
This ancient oak tree finally collapsed on 16 May 1941, just a month after the council had proposed the adding of a steel support. It is said that the tree had been used in Roman times as a signal station. The parish church of St Michael and All Saints, in the background, was rebuilt in 1864.
