Hemsby, The Donkeys c.1955

Having spent many happy holidays in Hemsby, my friend Avril and I decided to sign up for a season in Seacroft, we were just 18 and up for what was then an adventure away from home. It was a very happy time, we made many friends with both other waitresses and campers. I remember well my time at Hemsby.Paul Alden rented Cosy Car from his Aunt Margaret,This would be 1970.We also had our honeymoon there.the weather was lovely in September1970.When we had our daughter we all enjoyed our walks,and the beach.Aunt Lorna Engledow,and Paul's mum Joyce visited us,sadly they have both passed away.Strange to think we slept in the shed,times have changed.I think one of my husbands relations bought Cosy Car and still owns it.

I have many happy memories of going on holiday to Hemsby in the late 1960s and early 1970s. I remember we used to stay on the sand dunes in a wooden chalet-type building with no running water and an outside toilet, how times have changed. In 1950 my family started staying at Hemsby for a holiday each year. Would you believe that in those days you couldnt even buy a bag of chips. There was a small amusement arcade in Beach Road and a few machines at the tea rooms on the beach. In fact the only take away food was from the cockle stall opposite the Lacons Arms.
