970ft above sea level, Slack Top is a short distance from the cobbled streets of Heptonstall and was large enough to sustain the massive Mount Zion Baptist chapel (1878). Waterloo House (centre) was a popular refreshment house for many years, but has now been converted into a private house.

This was the first home I ever knew and remains, to this day, the one I hold as the true definition of 'home'. Waterloo House was where I was brought as a newborn in June 1974, and where I lived so happily until 1980 when we were, sadly, forced to sell up and leave.
