Memories

A Memory of Hersham.

My mother used to be the post mistress here back in the sixties. I used to come out of school across the road every lunch break, say "Hi Mum, can I please have some lunch money". I used to spend it on everything but lunch, Ha, boys eh?

I worked in the sweet shop when Cindy was there, you might like to contact sis Jan Baverstock, I think I remember her to talking about you in school days.
That is not Hersham Road.
I remember Dolly's ironmongers and Taplin's the chemist and the next shop which sold sweets.
There was a post office on Hersham Road next to the bakery. Opposite was George Elliot cycle shop where my first bike was bought and I later bought a Raliegh moped. A little further along on the corner of Albany Road was the Co-op.
I lived in Albany Road from 1944, when I was 3 yrs. old, till 1966.
There may have been a second post office but I don't believe it was on that corner.
I see the the post office in another picture a bit further along the road. Between the furniture shop and the green grocer. Also a fish monger - Ing's - and a hair dresser (barber George Elliot).
The memories are coming back and YES we had 2 post offices.
