Sublime. Growing Up In High Etherley.
A Memory of High Etherley.
Very similar to Marjories memories. The things we looked forward too were the Church and Chapel trips to the seaside, and the week before the school broke up for Summer when the shows as we called them came in. We would play blocky most nights,we would collect water for the show people and get free tickets for rides, and some of us were lucky enough to collect the money on the rodeo and dodgems which meant free rides all weekend, it was great. Carnival weekend apart from Christmas was the highlight of our year.
They really were sublime times, once a year was a yearly trip to Blackpool on Stephensons buses all the kidswanted Jackie Walker driving our bus, magic. Then Christmas, it was a wonderful time each year.Making lanterns decorations and having Christmas parties at School, and even though we didn't have much Christmas morning we couldn't wait to see what we got'( you could guarantee a bagatelle and roller skates) then we would be running to everybody else's house to see what they had got. Like I said we didn't get much but it meant the world to us. I will say it again ,magic. R Leonard.
